Become a Real Estate Agent

There are six major steps to obtain your real estate license in Missouri. We have detailed these steps for you below with some helpful links. Please reach out to us if you have additional questions about completing these steps or if you would like more information. 
 

STEP 1 : 48‐Hour Missouri Salesperson Pre‐Examination Course

  • Course completion is required before taking the exam and the 24-hour Practice Course

  • We will cover all topics included on the National and Missouri Salesperson exam

  • Once you complete this course, you have six months to finish the following steps and apply for your license with the Missouri Real Estate Commission (MREC).

 

STEP 2 : Pass the Exams

  • The exam is administered through PSI testing service, click here to visit their website or contact them by phone to set up your exam (888) 818-5829


STEP 3 : 24-hour Practice Course 

  • RedKey Real Estate School is offers this online course through our affiliate program. We recommend taking the national and state exam before starting your 24-hour practice course.

STEP 4 : Fingerprinting and Background Check

  • All applicants are required to use the Missouri State Highway Patrol's approved vendor IDEMIA (Identego).

STEP 5 : Find a Broker

  • You will need to find a real estate brokerage that fits your needs and offers the type of relationship you desire for your new real estate business. 

  • Interview brokerage firms in areas you are familiar with or wish to become knowledgable. 

  • Negotiate your independent contractor agreement with the broker you chose and complete your license application with them.  

 

STEP 6 : Apply For License

  • Mail the following documents to the MREC: your application, proof of fingerprinting, your passing score report from the testing center, your 24 hr Practice Course completion certificate and a check to complete this step.

 

Time frames are crucial in this process. You have six months from completion of the 48 Hour Salesperson Pre-Exam course to finish the following; pass national and state salesperson exam, complete the 24-hour Missouri Practice Course, submit fingerprints, chose a broker and apply for a license with the Missouri Real Estate Commission.
